5 questions for ecogirl Amy Smart-
1. What’s an easy tip for someone who wants to be more eco-conscious?
There are so many simple, easy ways to be more eco-friendly, look at your lifestyle habits. Start by using re-usable bags at the grocery store. My personal favorite, I carry around chico Bags in my purse at all times. Get a water filter and use reusable water bottles. Buy green cleaning products, they are much better for the environment and for your health in your home. Go to farmers markets and try to buy local and or organic produce. Turn off the lights when you are not using them and the water while brushing your teeth or washing dishes. The list goes on, be creative and challenge yourself to go outside of your usual routine. 2. Was there a moment when you decided to become an environmentalist?
Right out of high school, I wanted to volunteer for an environmental group, so I called Heal the Bay and trained to become a speaker for them. While I was giving talks to kids, I realized that i needed to walk my talk and started adopting the lifestyle tips I was sharing in those classrooms. It then became fun to find new ways of being more eco-conscious. I always go back to the idea that the environment cannot speak for itself, we need to be its voice and stand up for it. On another personal note, I absolutely worship nature, it makes me so happy, whether it’s the simplicity of a piece of fruit, or the mountains, the ocean, the wildlife, I feel grateful to experience it. 3. How do you balance an eco-lifestyle with a Hollywood lifestyle?
The Hollywood lifestyle is all about what car you drive, what you wear, who you are hanging out with, lots of surface stuff. Since Hollywood is like a spotlight on those things, I like to find more eco-makeup products like Young Blood, Jane Iredale, Josie Maran, to bring into my makeup kit. I drive a hybrid, I try to wear more eco-clothing when I can, and go to events that matter to me. At the end of the day, the health of our planet will determine how our lives will unfold, it’s really about everyone stepping up to the plate and caring enough to make positive changes in their lives. I also practice Kundalini Yoga and meditation to keep me in balance. 4. Who or what organization in the environmental cause inspires you?
I‘ve been working closely with Heal the Bay, Environmental Media Association, and Environmental California for over a decade now, they all inspire me in different ways. I just think it’s important for everyone to figure out what type of cause inspires them and do some volunteering! Help out in some way, nothing feels more satisfying then giving back to something you believe in. 5. Tell me something scandalous.
I like to keep my scandalous side behind closed doors 🙂
